What you can do

There are many opportunities for students to be a part of our lab during their honours and postgraduate studies in psychology. Whether you are looking to complete your 1-year honours thesis with us, or embark in a PhD project that dives deep into the intricacies of emotional wellbeing, there can be a place for you at the Emotional Wellbing Lab.

“Becoming a part of the EWL was the best decision of my honours year! The weekly meetings not only provided structure to my week but also gave me a place to vent and relate to a bunch of like-minded people who made it out the other side of honours. Kristin’s supervision is both supportive and empowering at the right times, I couldn’t recommend her and the EWL enough!”

– Ashleigh Bell (Honours Student, 2021)

Honours Students

Every year we have a few honours students complete the research component of their course (honours thesis) with our lab.

Below are some examples of the kinds of questions our students have explored in the past:

Postgraduate Students

We typically take 1-3 new PhD students in the lab each year, with projects focused on topics like emotion regulation, mindfulness, improving assessment of symptoms and affective experience, and person-specific models of internalising symptoms and risk factors.

The first group of PhD students in the Emotional Wellbeing Lab will enrol in 2021, and we are happy to talk with prospective students who think they might be interested in applying in future years!

What our students say

Being a part of the Emotional Wellbeing Lab has been a highlight of my Honours experience. I couldn't have asked for a better supervisor than Kristin - her knowledge, support and guidance throughout the year provided me with the confidence that I was on track and well-able to complete my research project. The team at the Lab are also amazing - so supportive and fun to be around, and the opportunity to be involved in the FEEL Study provided an invaluable learning experience.

Chris Burke (Honours Student, 2022)

Completing Honours within the Emotional Wellbeing Lab has been an incredibly rewarding and fun experience. Kristin is an incredibly supportive and inspiring supervisor, and having the support of other wonderful members of the EWL lab has made my whole thesis process feel far less daunting. If you're interested in emotional processes and disorders, I'd encourage you to check out the lab!

Karuna Nair (Honours Student, 2021)

Honours can seem daunting, but working with the EWL team has made the experience one of the most exciting and rewarding years of my degree. Kristin is talented researcher and supportive supervisor, who finds the perfect balance between providing guidance and helping students build their confidence to work independently.

Olivia Kingsley (Honours Student, 2020)

Working within the Emotional Wellbeing Lab has taught me about the importance, and benefit, of working in a collaborative research team. Whether it is about my specific research, the research process, or even navigating the general challenges of psychology, Kristin makes her support and guidance readily available.

Euan Lloyd (Honours Student, 2020)

Working in the Emotional Wellbeing Lab has been a great opportunity to learn more about the intricacies of the research process and develop my research skills, with help from the team of talented students and my supervisor, Kristin.
